ESOL for Ukrainians and Afghans
ESOL for Older Ukrainians project and ESOL for Afghan Women offer free English language lessons specifically designed for Ukrainians aged 55 and over, led by a Ukrainian-speaking teacher and for Afghan Women in Greenwich.
Classes held in a welcoming environment, participants can improve their English skills while building confidence and connecting with their community.

Lesson Information
Lessons take place weekly (term time only) at Clockhouse Community Centre, SE18 5QL.
Elementary Level: every Wednesday from 11:30 to 13:00
Basic Level: every Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00
All lessons are completely FREE, except for a small contribution towards the purchase of books.
Who can join the project
individuals who are over 55 years old,
arrived in the UK after the 24th of February 2022,
ready to attend weekly ESOL classes on a regular basis

Our ESOL course for adults aged 55+ is divided into 2 groups

Elementary (A0)
This group is perfect for those who are just starting to learn English.
This level will help you build a foundation, covering basic words, phrases, and simple conversations for everyday situations.
When: every Wednesday from 11:30 to 13:00, term time only

Basic (A1-A2)
Designed for learners with some prior knowledge of English.
You’ll expand your vocabulary, practice simple sentences, and gain confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
When: every Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00, term time only

ESOL for Afghan Women
Lesson Information
Lessons take place weekly (term time only) at Woolwich.
Mondays: from 10:00 to 12:00, Woolwich Common Community Centre, SE18 4DW.
Fridays: from 10:00 to 12:00, at Clockhouse Community Centre, SE18 5QL.
All lessons are completely FREE.
Our mission is to empower Ukrainians and Afghans through English language learning, supporting their adaptation, strengthening their confidence, and helping them actively take part in community life in the UK.
Our ESOL classes are led by a dedicated experienced teacher, ensuring a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
This approach allows participants to bridge the language gap more easily, ask questions in their native language, and progress confidently in their English learning journey.

Unfortunately, no, we can only accept individuals who meet the following criteria: they must be over 55 years old, have arrived in the UK after 24th February 2022, and be ready to attend weekly ESOL classes on a regular basis.
